DOT inspection & log transfer

Present logs, route the output file, and handle a failed transfer.

LESSON 2 / 2 · Continue the review when transmission fails

Continue the review when transmission fails

Use the available record and troubleshoot the failure.

A failed send does not always mean lost logs

If transfer fails but accurate logs remain available, present the compliant display or printout as directed. Check connectivity, driver/vehicle details, and the routing code. Retry as directed and document the failure. Follow malfunction procedures if their criteria are met.

Start with what is still available

At a glance · Follow the sequence

  1. 01

    Logs accurate?

Show the compliant display or printout as directed

  2. 02

    Send unavailable?

Check connection and routing, retry, document

  3. 03

    Data missing too?

Use malfunction reconstruction and fallback duties

Match the response to the observed failure and available records.

A failed send alone is not an out-of-service order. Follow the officer’s actual instructions.

The required cab materials support the review while a transfer problem is investigated.

Keep the required materials in the cab

  • ELD user instructions.
  • Data-transfer instructions.
  • Malfunction instructions.
  • Blank duty-status graphs for at least eight days.

Use instructions for the installed ELD. An older AOBRD card may describe a different workflow.

Lost data needs a different response

If required logs are missing or inaccurate, showing the screen is not enough. Follow the malfunction course’s reconstruction and manual-recording process.
