Personal conveyance vs. yard moves

Choose the right special category and handle a missed selection honestly.

LESSON 2 / 2 · Respond honestly to a missed selection

Respond honestly to a missed selection

Know what can and cannot be repaired afterward.

Select the category before moving

Select qualifying PC or YM before the movement starts. End the category when the activity ends. Without the selection, the ELD may record ordinary driving.

A factual annotation explains the missed selection while preserving the recorded event.

An annotation explains; it does not erase

Automatically recorded driving generally cannot be reduced or changed to non-driving. If you forgot the selection, annotate what happened and contact safety. An annotation does not remove the driving or automatically cancel a violation.

Explain a genuine missed category

At a glance · Follow the sequence

  1. 01

    Recorded event

Driving already exists in the ELD record

  2. 02

    Factual note

Task, location, time, and missed selection

  3. 03

    Safety review

Use the permitted process; preserve recorded driving

An annotation explains the yard task. It does not erase driving.

Narrow team-driver reassignment rules are separate. They are not a general way to relabel driving.

Check before and after the task

  • Confirm the activity qualifies.
  • Select the category before moving.
  • End it when the activity ends.
  • If an error occurs, preserve the record and explain the facts.
