Inspect the equipment, then record the findings
Connect a physical truck check to its report.
The inspection happens at the truck
A pre-trip inspection (PTI) is the physical safety check. A driver vehicle inspection report (DVIR) records findings. Inspect the actual equipment and review the previous defect report where required; completing an app form does not replace the physical check.
Record inspection time as on-duty not driving. Report a defect that affects safe operation to maintenance and safety before proceeding. The truck must be safe before departure.
Put the findings on the right equipment
If enabled, open the fleet-configured Vehicle Inspection / DVIR workflow on IVG. Confirm the truck and trailer, perform the physical pre-trip or post-trip inspection, record defects, and submit the report. If this application is not enabled, use the carrier’s approved reporting method.
At a glance · Follow the sequence
01
Inspect
Check the actual truck and trailer
02
Describe
Identify the defect and its location
03
Submit
Save and confirm the correct equipment
Follow up on unresolved defects. A submitted report does not establish that a repair was made.
Finish the day with the same care
After the trip, follow the carrier’s inspection and report process. For ordinary property-carrying operations, a no-defect DVIR is not always federally required; carrier policy can require one. Report safety defects and confirm the report saved. Signing a DVIR and certifying a log are separate actions.
