Complete logs: form & manner

Catch the small missing details that make a log incomplete.

LESSON 1 / 2 · Give the timeline its context

Give the timeline its context

Know the required information beyond the duty graph.

What form and manner means

Form-and-manner requirements are the details a complete log must contain. They identify the driver, date, equipment, carrier, and shipment. A correct duty graph can still be an incomplete log if these details are missing or wrong.

The required fields give the timeline its driver, equipment, and shipment context.

Check the required fields

Context to verify
AreaExamples
Driver and dateCorrect identity, log date, applicable co-driver
EquipmentVehicle identifiers and applicable trailers
CarrierCarrier name and main-office information
ShipmentShipping-document number, or shipper name and commodity
Duty recordStatuses, locations, total hours, and certification

The ELD fills some fields automatically. The driver supplies others. Check saved values; yesterday’s trailer or shipment may no longer be correct.

Update details when the trip changes

When there is no load, record the actual situation in the app’s workflow. Do not invent a shipping-document number.
